Accelerated Reader

Accelerated Reader (AR) Program

At California Elementary School students participate in a school-wide reading program called Accelerated Reader (AR).  Accelerated Reader (AR) is a computer program that helps the teacher manage and monitor children's independent reading level and provides opportunity for comprehension practice.  Students are reading books at their own independent reading level and taking computer generated comprehension quizzes to check their understanding. Our school-wide  comprehension goal is an 85% quiz average.  AR differentiates by reading levels using the zpd (zone of proximal development) - the range of books that will challenge a child without causing frustration.  Please talk with your child's teacher to learn more about their individual AR goal.
